Evaluation Kit:
SMH4804

General Description

The SMH4804EVAL kit is a fully functional printed circuit board designed to demonstrate all the features of the SMH4804 Nonvolatile -48V Hot-Swap (live-insertion) Controller. The circuit operates over the full Telecom supply range of -32 to -72VDC, soft-starting loads of up to 10 amperes. The SMH4804EVAL also manages the power-on sequencing of up to external 4 DC-DC converters in addition to many other useful Hot-Swap functions.

Several key, user-configurable functions are:

  1. User-Configurable under-voltage, over-voltage and over-current limits.
  2. 'Power Good' (PG#1-PG#4) outputs with programmable delay time to assertion.
  3. Inputs for 'Short-Pin' or ejector switch card removal detection.
  4. Programmable over-current filter response time to prevent nuisance tripping.
  5. User-Configurable 'Forced Shutdown' pin allows secondary-side fault detection and orderly shutdown.

Additional features included on the EVAL board:

  • EZ connect Power and Signal pins
  • User-Programmable Interface connector to digitally control analog hot-swap functions
  • Piggy-back mounting pins for a DC-DC Converter
  • 4 Optically-Isolated DC-DC Converter Enable signals
  • 1 Optically-Isolated SMH4804 Shutdown interface
