San
Jose, CA -- April 3, 2003 -- Summit
Microelectronics has announced availability of the
SMT2002
Dual-Channel TRAKKER. This is a two-channel
device that limits the voltage differential between
power supply channels to <100mV while
controlling their ramp rate during power-up and
-down to an internally-set rate of 500V/s. Tracking
is the most dependable turn-on control for
preventing latch-up and ensuring long-term
reliability in supplying power to multi-voltage
high performance devices where cCore and I/O
voltage levels need to meet precise turn-on
requirements.
The part can be used alone or in conjunction with
the Summit SMS24,
SMS44
or SMS64
sequencing controllers to implement additional
monitoring functions across more channels. A status
output on the device indicates when the track-up
and track-down are complete.
The device is a drop- in solution that controls
external MOSFETs' gates to perform the operation of
minimizing the voltage differential of the supplies
as they are turned on. Once the input-to-output
voltage difference across the MOSFETs is reduced to
200mV, tracking is considered complete and the gate
voltages are then fully enhanced for ongoing
operation. The same sequence occurs during power
down.
Designed for use in point-of-load power
applications or in multi-supply rail systems, the
device plays an important role in mezzanine line
cards and multi-voltage network processors, digital
signal processors, and ASICS. The part is also
essential in cost-sensitive applications demanding
voltage tracking, such as cable modem consumer
premise equipment (CPE), xDSL CPE, and set-top
boxes.
Packaging, Price and Availability
The SMT2002 is available now in a 16-lead SSOP
package for $2.85 each in quantities of 10,000
parts.
