Microelectronics Names New President & CEO to Lead Next
Stage of Growth

CA -- February 6, 2001 -- Summit
Microelectronics Inc. has named Chuck Berghoff as
president and chief executive officer (CEO). Mr.
Berghoff joins the four-year-old company following
a diverse career in the semiconductor and
optoelectronics industries. According
to Jim Diller, chairman of the board of Summit,
"Chuck's broad experience in the industry and
leadership further strengthens Summit
Microelectronics' position as the power management
solution provider to leading communications
infrastructure and optoelectronics system equipment
suppliers." Most
recently, Mr. Berghoff held the role of
entrepreneur in residence at Summit Partners, a
high-technology venture-capital firm. From
1986 to 1999, Mr. Berghoff held several executive
management positions at Siemens and was
instrumental in growing their optoelectronics
businesses. At the time he left Siemens he was vice
president and general manager of the Siemens
Infineon Optoelectronics Division. In that
position, he was responsible for several business
units including LED displays, infrared data
transceivers, optical DAA's, solid-state relays,
optocouplers and fiber optic transceivers for the
communications markets. Prior
to Siemens, Mr. Berghoff held senior operations,
marketing and sales management positions at Intel,
Supertex and LADCOR. He holds a BSEE degree from
the Institute of Technology at the University of
Minnesota. Mr.
Berghoff succeeds Rick Orlando, a founder of
Summit. Mr. Orlando now becomes chief technology
officer and will lead product operations including
product design and applications marketing, a new
role at the company. Other
key staff positions at the company are held by Greg
Miller, chief financial officer; Ed Armstrong, vice
president of manufacturing operations; and Ted
Meyers, vice president of design
engineering. "Summit
has a strong market position providing innovative
power management solutions to the leading industry
suppliers in the communications infrastructure and
optoelectronics markets," said Mr. Berghoff.
