PROGRAMMABLE PRECISION SUPERVISORY CONTROLLER MONITORS FOUR VOLTAGE SUPPLIES IN 5MV INCREMENTS AND HAS FOUR INDEPENDENT RESETS

San Jose, CA -- June 21, 2004 -- Summit Microelectronics has announced availability of the SMS46 and SMS48 four-channel supervisory controllers with precision monitoring in 5mV increments of any voltage between 0.6 and 5.6V. Up to four independent reset signals can be programmed to respond to under or over voltage on any of the four supervised channels as well as to watchdog or user push button conditions.

Each device utilizes four independent nonvolatile DACs for user programming of the over voltage and under voltage set points on the monitored channels.

Both the SMS46 and SMS48 can be accessed by the popular I2C bus to exercise complete control of the controllers' characteristics. This can be done during production, or each time that the board is booted up, or during normal operation "on the fly."

DESIGN SOFTWARE AND PROGRAMMER FOR PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT

To speed user product development using the SMS46 and SMS48, Summit offers customers the
SMX3200 programming system. This is a complete development tool that lets designers easily manipulate the characteristics of their system. The SMX3200 design kit includes menu-driven Microsoft Windows" graphic user interface (GUI) software to automate programming tasks and also includes all necessary hardware to interface to the parallel port of a laptop or PC. This system has seen widespread acceptance by users since it was introduced four years ago

Once a user completes design and prototyping, SMX3200 automatically generates a HEX data file that can be transmitted to Summit for review and approval. Summit then assigns a unique customer identification code to the HEX file and programs the customer's production devices prior to final electrical test operations. This ensures that the device will operate properly in the end application. The design kit software can be downloaded today from Summit's website (
www.summitmicro.com).

DESIGN KIT FOR AUTOMATED PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT

An evaluation card containing the SMS46 or SMS48 controller, all required associated circuitry, and a port for "plug and play" programming via the SMX3200 dongle interface is available.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

Available in volume quantities today, the SMS46 and SMS48 come in a 16-lead SSOP package. The SMS46, with 4 kilobits of user memory, is priced at $2.25 in 10,000 unit quantities. The SMS48, without user memory, is priced at $1.63 in 10,000 unit quantities.
