RoHS
The European Union’s “Restriction of Hazardous Substances” Directive – more commonly known as RoHS – was first adopted in 2003 ands is aimed at reducing the production and use of toxic chemicals in the electronics industry. The list of toxic chemicals is headed by lead but also includes mercury, cadmium, chromium and others. It is estimated that pre-RoHS about 24,000 metric tons of lead, in the form of solder and solder paste, were used per year to manufacture electronic products globally. RoHS compliance reduces that number to almost zero. Also All of Summit’s products are produced as RoHS compliant and “lead-free”.
